CIREBON, itb.ac.id – Students from the Prompt Consulting Group (Prompt CG) student activity unit, along with faculty members from the Industrial Engineering Program at Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) Cirebon Campus, and the Advanced Manufacturing Study Group (AMSG) under the Industrial Engineering Program, launched a collaborative initiative with small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the craft sector in Cirebon through a workshop on Design Thinking and Prototyping at Building A, ITB Cirebon Campus, on Saturday, May 31, 2025. The program also involved the Cirebon Regency Industry and Trade Office.

Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) play a central role in driving the local economy and have significant potential for innovation based on local wisdom.

Through this activity, the Prompt CG Community introduced technologies such as 3D printing, laser cutting/engraving, and CNC milling (desktop) as production and prototyping tools. The aim was to create practical, contextual solutions that enhance work efficiency while strengthening the innovation independence of SME practitioners.

This collaboration was a co-creation process. Students, faculty members, and SME practitioners worked together to create solutions. “Through this approach, students are given the opportunity to directly understand the real needs of the local creative industry and actively collaborate in designing solutions that align with on-the-ground conditions,” said Dr. Nur Faizatus Sa'idah, S.SI., M.T., an Industrial Engineering Lecturer at ITB.

“The hope is that SMEs can become more independent in innovation and open to new participatory approaches. Additionally, this collaboration is expected to drive technology transformation that is grounded in reality, and position the campus as a strategic partner in addressing real-world issues in the community,” said Ilouvi Syafna Latif, Chair of the Prompt CG Community.
